Wonderful news! The new (blue) Mobetron was used for the first time at Long yesterday to treat a patient. This is the culmination of a long process to commission two new Mobetrons, one for Mount Zion, and one for Long, in order to replace the old Mobetron (serial # 1).
IORT patient procedures can now be performed at either place. Already, the number of procedures has double in the last 12 months, compared to previous years.
This is one significant step toward the replacement of our technological park. Although more replacements have yet to materialize, our department is already in position to offer one of the widest varieties of specialized radiation treatments in the U.S., something we can all be proud of.
